Petrol Prices and Petrol Stations in Germany

Buying Petrol in Germany

Having started in the UK, Whatgas is now collecting petrol prices and petrol station locations  in Germany as well as other European countries.

Germany has a diverse set of petrol station brands including Aral, Esso,  Jet, Shell and Total, with Aral and Shell being the market leaders. Germany has one of the highest number petrol stations in Europe, and one of the highest percentages of independent petrol stations, with 1 in 3 stations not being affiliated to the larger brands.

Germany is one of the most expensive places in Europe to buy petrol, and is one of the few places on the continent that is actually more expensive than the UK. This is driven by slightly higher petrol taxes. A new law in Germany is being considered that would require the petrol stations to give a days notice before changing petrol prices, and to keep them constant for at least 24hrs after any price movement.

If you would like to comment about petrol stations and petrol prices in Germany, then please email us at webmaster@whatgas.com, we would be delighted to add your comments to this page.

The Rising Cost of Fuel

The cost of both petrol and diesel is slowly creeping up and up!  As consumers this is hard to grasp, as on one hand we are told that the price of oil is coming down but we see no change in the price at the pump, why?  We all know that taxes are levied on fuels but just what percentage of this tax makes up the final cost?  What about rising inflation, how much is this hurting us?  All these questions are asked by consumers everyday but are things really that bad?  Let's take a look at some of these questions and try to work out if the cost of fuel today is dispr Read more »

There are suprisingly few petrol stations right in the centre of leeds, with an Esso garage being the closest to the city centre. There are very few supermarket petrol stations as well, with only two Morrisons close to the city centre, whilst Sainsburys and Tesco petrol stations can be found on the outskirts of Leeds.

Petrol Prices in and Around Liverpool

Liverpool is close to one of the few petrol chemical oil refinaries in England - Ellesmere Port. Because it is so close to a fuel refinary that produces both diesel and unleaded petrol one would assume that the transport costs of the petrol are lower than in other parts of country and this would be reflected in the price of both petrol and unleaded at the pump.

Luckily this actually tends to be the case, and although petrol prices in Liverpool do fluctuate they do tend to be slightly lower than the average price of petrol in the UK.

The table below gives the average price for Unleaded, Diesel and LPG petrol for the last 30 days inLiverpool and compares it to the average price of petrol in the UK.

Map of Petrol Stations in Liverpool.

The map below gives the location of all petrol stations in Liverpool. It shows the most up to date petrol prices that we have. If you live or work in Liverpool then why not help out by updating any petrol prices that you know?

Liverpool has its fair share of supermarkets, Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys and Morrisons, all of which helps to keep the price of petrol low through general competition to get supermarket shoppers in the door. However it does also have a reasonable number of brand numbers, in particular BP garages are fairly common in Liverpool.
